The latest report from the Spanish State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT) on both incorporated and non-corporate SMEs in 2024 reflects a widening tax gap between the self-employed and small businesses. According to the data, the self-employed paid an average personal income tax rate of 21.73% on their profits, while SMEs faced an average corporate income tax rate of 17.31%. <\/p>\n\n

This difference has led 57,000 self-employed workers to consider forming companies as a way to reduce their tax burden. Self-employed associations have been demanding since 2022 that the Spanish Tax Agency (Hacienda) adjust the national portion of the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) to reflect inflation. Some autonomous communities, such as Madrid, Andalusia, the Basque Country, Navarre, Aragon, and the Canary Islands, have already implemented this 50% adjustment, while others have not yet done so. <\/p>\n\n
