Foreigners: new visas for the America Cup Barcelona 2024

August 2024 will mark the start of the 37th edition of America's Cup sailing regattas. This edition will be held in Barcelona.
Therefore, the Council of Ministers reached an agreement on 6 September 2022 to determine the procedure to be followed by the professional participants of this edition to enter and reside in Spain.
Who is this order aimed at?
On 8 September, Order PCM/861/2022 was published in the BOE and it was agreed that this order is aimed at:
- Engineering professionals (construction, maintenance or repair of nautical equipment).
- Technical profiles.
- Communication professionals and managers of major international events who have already participated in an edition of America's Cup.
- Logistics and administration professionals.
- Sports medicine professionals.
- Nautical professionals.
- Sailors and sailors.
- Spouses, people with an accredited relationship of affection and economically dependent sons/daughters.
How long does this leave last?
Most of these professionals are not part of the European Union, so they require more comprehensive permits. Furthermore, these people cannot arrive in Spain exclusively during the period of the regatta but must do so up to 2 years beforehand for the construction and adaptation of the sailboats, as well as the preparation of the event, the training and the subsequent dismantling of the structures.
Therefore, the professionals will be able to access with the permit from 9 September 2022 until 30 April 2025, depending on the duration of the contract and with a maximum of 2 years.
